Program Overview

You will expand your dance vocabulary and world view through this study abroad program, with a rich cultural experience of contemporary and traditional dance and music of Spain. Not only will you connect with dancers from across Europe and experience conversations in movement, but also get a taste of the culture and dance of Spain.
The program is based at the Centro Andaluz de Danza (CAD), a well-known dance conservatory that trains dancers in Modern, Ballet, and Flamenco. Located in Seville, CAD is considered one of the leading dance conservatories in Spain.

You will participate in classes taught by MSU and local dance faculty, attend performances, and meet dancers and faculty from Spain. The daily dance classes will include contemporary and traditional styles, including Flamenco. There will be Flamenco or contemporary performances almost every night, and various local site visits

Itinerary Highlights: About Seville, Spain

Seville Bridge Building

Seville Bridge

Located in the Andalucia region of Southern Spain and known for its dance and music (Flamenco and Sevillana), Seville is considered the “Flamenco Capital” of the world.  The city is pristine and full of lovely shops with ornate fans, traditional Spanish dresses, and contemporary clothing. Its charming streets, many closed to cars, are lined with flowers, with horses and carriages and trams. The numerous museums and important historical sites give perspective and context and are easily visited by foot or bicycle or bus or by the tram. Its historic center, lorded over by a colossal Gothic cathedral, is an intoxicating mix of resplendent Mudéjar palaces, baroque churches and winding medieval lanes. Aristocratic mansions recall the city’s past as a showcase Moorish capital and, later, a 16th-century metropolis rich on the back of New World trade. You will find that Seville disarms and seduces you.
